Reps to immortalize Na’Abba by naming NASS complex after him

The House of Representatives has resolved to name the National Assembly complex after its former Speaker, Ghali Na’Abba.

This is sequel to the adoption of a motion by Rep. Aliyu Madaki (NNPP-Kano) during plenary in Abuja on Thursday.

Presenting the motion, titled “Need to immortalize former Speaker, Ghali Na’Abba by naming the National Assembly Service Commission building after him, Madaki said at the beginning of the fourth Republic in 1999, Na’Abba was elected as a member of the House.

He said Na’Abba was an influential Speaker of the House between 1999 and 2003 on account of his courageous, dynamic, outspoken pursuit of legislative independence.

He commended his revolutionary approach to running the House as Speaker within the period.

“Na’Abba, as Speaker, embarked on a number of measures to ensure the independence of the legislature, which included but were not limited to profound scrutiny of the budget framework,” he said.

Adopting the motion, the House resolved to honour Na’Abba, by naming the National Assembly Service Commission complex after him.

The House referred the matter to the Senate for concurrence.

Na’Abba, a former Speaker of the House died on Sept. 27, 2023, in Abuja at the age of 65. (NAN)
