Residents raise alarm after missile landed on farmland in Sokoto

A resident of Jabo village in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Mallam Abdulrahman Mai Nasara Jabo, has said that a missile allegedly linked to United States airstrikes landed on cultivated farmland in the area without causing any casualties.

Speaking to SolaceBase on Friday, Mai Nasara, a resident of the community, said the explosion occurred late on Thursday night, between 10:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., behind the village.

He explained that residents were alerted by a loud bang, which prompted concerns about what had happened.

“We heard a very loud sound behind our village, like a bomb explosion. People started discussing what it could be, and after some minutes, many residents moved toward the area,” he said. “My friend and I joined them, and when we got there, we saw fire burning dry grass on a farmland. The object that fell from the sky had hit the ground and dug a deep hole.”

According to him, some residents were later seen picking up fragments of the object believed to have fallen during the strike. He added that it was only hours later, after checking social media, that they saw reports in which U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that American forces had carried out airstrikes against ISIS terrorists in Northwestern Nigeria.

Mai Nasara stressed that, to the best of his knowledge, there is no record of terrorist or criminal activity in Jabo village or its surrounding areas. He expressed concern over the incident and called on the Nigerian government to urgently investigate and address the situation, noting that fear has forced some residents to flee the community.

“I am calling on the Nigerian government to act on this issue. If this missile had landed in the residential area where people live, there would have been casualties and many lives could have been lost. Thankfully, for now, there are no casualties,” he said.

Another resident, who declined to be named, said fear has gripped the community, with people living in uncertainty over the possibility of another airstrike.

SolaceBase reports that U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that American forces had carried out what he described as “powerful and deadly” airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists operating in Northwestern Nigeria, warning that further attacks would follow if the group continued killing Christians.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, said Nigeria provided the intelligence that led to the United States’ airstrike on terrorist targets in the country and formally approved the operation before it was carried out.
