Rev. Dangora urges religious unity, says insecurity affects Muslims, Christians

The Chairman of the Association of Christian Leaders in Northern Nigeria, Rev. Murtala Mati Dangora, has called for unity between Muslims and Christians, urging Nigerians to rise above religious and ethnic divisions in the face of growing insecurity and recent threats reportedly made by former U.S. President Donald Trump against Nigeria.

Speaking to journalists in Kano, Rev. Dangora stressed that insecurity in the country affects everyone, regardless of faith or tribe.

He cautioned against framing the crisis as one targeting a particular religion, noting that both Christians and Muslims have been victims of terrorist attacks and communal violence.

“Yes, people are being killed in Nigeria; this is a heartbreaking reality. But to say that only Christians are being killed is not true. Muslims, too, are being killed. Entire communities, regardless of faith, are living in fear as violence continues to spread across Nigeria.”

He lamented the failure of the federal government to ensure the safety of citizens, describing the persistent killings as a sign of weak leadership and lack of accountability.

“The federal government has failed to provide security. People are being killed, but nothing changes. It is time for accountability. Action should be taken, and those perpetrating these acts must face justice.”

Rev. Dangora emphasized that unity and cooperation among religious communities are essential to overcoming insecurity and promoting peace in Nigeria. He urged both Christian and Muslim leaders to work together in sensitizing their followers toward tolerance, understanding, and national cohesion.
