SCSN disowns social media rumours on INEC chairman, reaffirms call for resignation
The Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN), has dismissed circulating social media reports claiming it directed Muslims to pray for the removal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, stressing that such allegations are false and misleading.
This is contained in a statement on Monday in Kaduna by its Secretary General, Mal. Nafi’u Baba Ahmad.
The Council said the reports, attributed to unofficial and anonymous sources, were intended to create tension and politicize the organisation.
“The Council categorically dissociates itself from these claims in their entirety.

“At no time did the Council issue any directive, statement, or call of such nature,” the statement added.
While distancing itself from social media fabrications, SCSN reaffirmed its previous position that the INEC Chairman should resign or be relieved of his duties, citing concerns over his perceived prejudice against Islam and Muslims.
The Council emphasized that this stance is based on documented actions and legal briefs, not political bias or sectarian considerations.
The Council called on the Muslim community and the media to rely solely on official communications issued through recognised channels and warned against giving credence to rumours.
SCSN said it remains committed to promoting justice, moral rectitude, and peaceful coexistence, and will not allow itself to be drawn into partisan political controversies.
