Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Katsina with the body of the late immediate-past President Muhammadu Buhari.

The body of former President Muhammadu Buhari arrived in Katsina on Tuesday afternoon as the nation begins final rites for the late Nigerian leader.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s aircraft touched down at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Katsina, at exactly 1:45 p.m., ahead of the arrival of the remains of Buhari. 

The former president’s corpse arrived ten minutes later at 1:55 p.m., aboard a flight from London, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima and members of the Buhari family.

A solemn military parade was held at the airport to honor the late statesman, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023 and remained a towering figure in national politics.

Following the airport ceremony, the funeral procession departed for Daura, Buhari’s hometown, where funeral prayers will be conducted in accordance with Islamic rites.

Dignitaries at the airports includes governors, ministers, senior government officials, among others.
