Shippers’council trains stakeholders on use of new online registration portal
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has organised a sensitisation programme to train importers, exporters, and other stakeholders in the maritime industry on how to effectively use its newly launched online registration portal.
SolaceBase reports that the program focused on the Online Portal for the Registration of Regulated Port Service Providers and Users, offering practical demonstrations on how to input company details, upload necessary documents, and obtain compliance certificates through the platform.
Speaking at the event on Tuesday in Kano, NSC Executive Secretary, Barrister Pius Akutah, represented by the Deputy Director of the Stakeholders Services Division, Hanna Adaba, described the digital platform as a major step in modernising port operations and reducing bureaucratic processes.
He emphasised that the portal allows users to register from any location, removing the need for physical visits to NSC offices.

“This development is part of our efforts to create a more efficient and transparent maritime sector, and it also supports our transition into the Nigerian Port Economic Regulatory Agency (NIPERA),” Akutah stated.
The registration portal, introduced in line with Part II, Section 4(1) of the Port Economic Regulation 2015, is also designed to support the implementation of the International Cargo Tracking Note (ICTN). The ICTN enhances cargo monitoring, combats under-declaration, and strengthens the security of trade operations.
Participants were guided through the portal’s functionality, with NSC officials highlighting its importance in promoting accountability, regulatory compliance, and improved service delivery.
On his part, the Director of the NSC’s North West Zone, Alhaji Ahmed Umar Yazah, encouraged attendees to make the most of the training, especially those operating within Kano State. He explained that the portal applies not only to importers and exporters, but also to clearing agents, freight forwarders, bonded warehouse operators, inland dry port managers, and other service providers involved in maritime logistics.
“Our goal is to bring all stakeholders under one umbrella, where they can access relevant trade information, enhance cooperation, and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic development,” Yazah added.
