Skyline University Nigeria secures full NUC accreditation for all its programs

The Skyline University Nigeria has announced that it has received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for all its academic programmes.

This was disclosed on Monday during a media briefing organized by the university management to update journalists on its academic progress and upcoming convocation activities.

Speaking at the event, which also marked the university’s fourth pre-convocation lecture and eight years of academic excellence, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ajith Kumar V, said the accreditation covered all programs, including those in the School of Basic and Medical Sciences.

Prof. Kumar noted that the achievement reflects Skyline University’s commitment to academic excellence and quality education.

He also announced the introduction of seven new NUC-accredited part-time degree programs. These include: B.Sc. International Relations, B.Sc. Economics, B.Sc. Business Administration, B.Sc. Entrepreneurship and Innovation, B.Sc. Mass Communication, B.Sc. Computer Science and B.Sc. Information Systems.

SolaceBase reports that the Vice-Chancellor explained that the new programs are designed to expand learning opportunities and equip students with relevant skills for today’s dynamic job market.

Highlighting major student activities during the academic year, Prof. Kumar said the university continues to promote learning beyond the classroom through various initiatives. These include the CEO Lecture Series, 28 guest lectures featuring local and international experts, the university’s first Career Fair, its inaugural TEDx event, CV Clinic sessions for final-year students, Alumni Series initiatives, and technical visits to leading organizations such as BBC Africa, the United Nations, and Media Trust Group.

In the area of innovation and entrepreneurship, Prof. Kumar revealed that the university, through its Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, has launched the HP Gaming Garage and the AI Innovation Lab. These platforms, he said, provide students with opportunities to develop business ideas, create innovative solutions, and build startups addressing real-world challenges.

He further disclosed that the university’s library now offers access to ten new academic databases, including Research4Life, which provides over 20,000 reference materials. The initiative, according to him, aligns with global academic standards and enhances students’ access to world-class research resources.

“Our goal is not just to produce job seekers but job creators who are equipped with the mindset and skills to drive social and economic transformation,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

As part of its effort to strengthen global relevance, Prof. Kumar announced that the university has signed four new Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with reputable international institutions and industries. These include partnerships with Keele University in the United Kingdom and Sheridan College in Canada, focusing on student exchange programmes, joint academic development, and cross-cultural exposure.

Reaffirming the university’s commitment to community development through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Vice-Chancellor also revealed that 1,000 schoolteachers have been trained under the RMK Empowerment Program’s Teachers’ Empowerment and Enhancement Certification initiative. Additionally, 100 youths and women were certified in Hospitality Practice, while 50 young entrepreneurs benefited from the Digital Literacy and ICE Programme.

He added that under the World Bank IDEAS Project, Skyline University has trained Nigerian youths in key digital and technical skills, including ICT, Microsoft Office, Web Design, Desktop Publishing, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Machine Learning, and Programming. The first cohort of the project, he said, has been successfully completed, while the second is currently ongoing.

Concluding the briefing, Prof. Kumar announced that during this year’s convocation ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, the university will confer a total of 180 Bachelor’s degrees and 43 Higher Degrees.

Among the graduating class, 24 students earned First Class honours, 79 graduated with Second Class (Upper Division), and 77 with Second Class (Lower Division).

He added that the results reflect the university’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, skills development, and character building.
