SON inaugurates calibrating mobile trucks, other equipment

The Director General of Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON), Mallam Farouk A. Salim has inaugurated calibrating mobile trucks and other measurement equipment in Kano.

SOLACEBASE reports that the inauguration with the theme (delivering free calibration services at your doorsteps) took place on Tuesday at Gerawa rice mills company, Kano state.

Speaking at the occasion, the SON DG, Mallam Farouk Salim said the calibration will boost export and consumers’ confidence on goods and guarantee accurate and reliable measurements for the country.

‘’We have three mobile trucks ordered this year, and we will have three more ordered next year, because the plan is that every region should have this permanently station there, where every industries should make a phone call for calibration service, we  get to you and calibrate your products and then go back,’’ the DG said.

‘’You can’t take Gerawa industries or any other industries products, put it in the car and take it to Enugu and get it measured, you need mobile calibration labs, most of the things we needed to be measured should be in a mobile set up.’’

‘’The calibration we are doing now is just the beginning, it is the first stage in making sure our industries are protecting their efficiency, their raw materials are accurately measured and they don’t have wastage within the industries.’’

‘’As I said earlier, it is very important for industries to work with us and get their products calibrated, because they will standardize their products, people will have more confidence in their products, and confidence of consumers is directly success to the industries.’’

The DG added that SON is committed in protecting industries and make Nigerian products to be respected and patronize worldwide.

In a remark, the Managing Director of Gerawa Rice Mills, Dr. Ibrahim Muhammad said before now the company relied on weigh and measures under the ministry of commerce and industries to calibrate their products, but now it comes to their notice that Standards Organization of Nigeria is the main organization that carries out the process.

On his part, the chairman of Al-wabeel rice mills, Malam Imran Muhammad Amin expressed confidence on SON and they are absolutely certain that, it will do the right things.
