South West Labour Party members dump Obi for Tinubu

Scores of Labour Party (LP) members in the South West, on Monday, tore their membership cards into shreds and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to work for the victory of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in the February 25 presidential election.

The LP members, who were led by the Southwest Chairman of the party, Banji Omotosho, collapsed all their political structures to the ruling APC, at an event held in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

Their defection into the APC was facilitated by the National Chairman of the South West Agenda For Asiwaju Tinubu (SWAGA) 2023, Dr. Dayo Adeyeye, and other members of the support group.

Speaking at the ongoing event, Omotosho said that leaders and members of the LP in the Southwest have decided to quit the party as it was not a viable political platform to win the 2023 elections.

He specifically knocked Obi’s chances, noting that the LP presidential candidate ‘cannot win the February poll’.

The wave of defection hit Obi barely 48 hours after he ended his political campaign tour of the 36 states of the federation in Lagos at the weekend.
