Stallion Times organises workshop to enhance stakeholders’ engagement in Kano

A leading online media outlet, Stallion Times has organized a one-day capacity-building workshop for media practitioners, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders in Kano state.

The workshop, supported by the Wole Soyinka Center for Investigative Journalism and the MacArthur Foundation, took place in Kano state, on Tuesday.

SolaceBase reports that the purpose of the workshop was to enhance the capacity of stakeholders in establishing structures and strategies for effective engagement with both state and non-state actors, including the private sector.

In his opening remarks, Stallion Times Publisher, Isyaku Ahmed said that the event also aimed to leverage innovative technology to drive a permanent dialogue mechanism across Open Government Partnership (OGP) thematic areas.

Ahmed noted that through this workshop, the media outlet hopes to establish a permanent dialogue mechanism for participatory governance, ensuring quality service delivery in Kano state.

Presenting a paper titled “Structure of Engagement on Permanent Dialogue Mechanism” at the event, Dr Abdussalam Muhammad Kani explained that the core idea revolves around implementing a structure where government and society regularly meet to ensure good governance.

He stated that, “PDM seeks to convey citizens’ feedback and provide opportunities for them to engage the government on its plans, policies, budget, and service delivery interventions.”

He noted that citizen engagement in Nigeria suffers due to severe public mistrust in the government’s capacity to implement public policy, which reflects an anti-government attitude, such as tax evasion.
