SWAN unveils commitment to empower women for economic stability in Kano

The Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN), Kano Chapter, has expressed unwavering commitment towards women empowerment in the state in order to achieve self-reliance and economic stability.

The Chairperson of the society, Hajiya Hauwa Umar, disclosed this on Saturday in Kano during her investiture as the 2nd Chairperson and inauguration of the executive members.

Umar said the society will also work to ensure that it grooms women in skills acquisition through tailored training to enable them to venture into different kinds of businesses.

She reiterated that if trained, the women would be able to support themselves and their family members, adding that “if you support a woman, it is like you empower the whole society.”

“They will have a little source of income to be able to remain self-sustained. Also, they can support themselves and other women that are around them.

“We also aspire to support individuals in education because it is the backbone of any economic or social development in a society,” Umar added.

The outgoing chairperson of the society, Christiana Oluranti Lawal, called on the incoming Chairperson to remain focused and strong in discharging her duties as the leader.

“Whatever good you have planned in your mind, you shouldn’t fear challenges. You should know that a challenge is a stepping stone, don’t expect a hundred percent support.

“Sometimes when you write a budget, you wonder where the fund will come from. However, in one way or another, those who have seen what we have done, support it.”

Senator Aminu Iya Abbas from Adamawa State commended the society and provided support of N5 million as a scholarship for 50 students to be enrolled in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

The event had many important personalities in attendance, including politicians and academics from all walks of Nigeria.
