TCN to compensate affected persons along Mando–Rimin Zakara 330kV line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it plans to compensate those who will be affected by the construction of the Mando–Rimin Zakara 330 kilovolts (KV) transmission line in Kano Region.

TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, said in a statement in Abuja on Friday that the company made the commitment at a sensitisation programme for Project Affected Persons.

Mbah said that the programme was organised by TCN in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB) ahead of the construction of Mando–Rimin Zakara 330kV Transmission Line.

“The program, which was held in Rimin Zakara Community, brought together traditional rulers from 25 communities in Kano State.

“These include Mr Abdullahi Muhammad, Chairman of Kiru Local Government Area security agencies, and other stakeholders, ‘’she said.

Speaking at the event, Mr Mohammed Bello, General Manager (Transmission), Kano Region, said that the Federal Government had released its portion of the compensation funds.

Represented by  Mr Ibrahim Aliyu,  Assistant General Manager (Transmission), Kano Region, Bello said that payment of compensation was expected to begin between now and April.

A consultant with Resource Field Nigeria Limited, Mr David Ayomide Sanni, explained that compensation would be paid by cheque directly to beneficiaries.

Sanni said that the affected persons must present their Bank Verification Number, National Identification Number, and relevant documents.

He added that beneficiaries would also receive farm inputs at the conclusion of the exercise.

In his remarks, the Director of Transmission, Ministry of Power,  Mr Abinbola Ominiyi, said that the project would improve electricity supply in the region.

He, however, called for the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of the project and assured that adequate compensation would be paid to all affected persons. (NAN)
