The Realities of Kano politics in 2027- Bashir Hayatu Gentile

By Bashir Hayatu Gentile

As the journey to the 2027 general election commences, various assumptions and calculations emerge, shaping the political landscape.

Speculations circulate among political heavyweights, suggesting a deal between Rabiu Kwankwaso and  Bola Tinubu.

The alleged pact involves Kwankwaso relinquishing control of Kano to the NNPP in exchange for support in the 2027 presidential election, leveraging the massive votes the Kwankwasiya movement could muster from Kano, surpassing the cumulative votes of the entire South West states.

However, the political dynamics in Kano for 2027 present a different landscape compared to previous elections.

The state is now under the influence of four major politicians, each capable of delivering their zones or constituencies to the political party of their choice.

Kano North is under the control of Sen. Barau Jibrin, Kano Central is influenced by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Kano South is directly under Senator Kawu Sumaila and traditional institutions, Ulamas, civil servants, and elites are swayed by Senator Mallam Ibrahim Shekaru.

Therefore, any coalition of the two groups mentioned above that secures the support of Senator Mallam Ibrahim Shekaru will likely carry the day.

Politicians, beware of being deceived by certain political scavengers; Kano politics in 2027 proves to be unpredictable.
