Uche, Abua set for men’s singles final showdown at 37th Dala Hard Court tennis championship

The 37th edition of the Dala Hard Court Tennis Championships is approaching its conclusion, with players competing at a high level throughout the event.

The men’s singles final, scheduled for Saturday, will feature top-seeded player Oparaoji Uche and finalist Abua Canice.

In the semifinals held on Friday, at Kano Club, Oparaoji Uche defeated Michael Emmanuel in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6(5), while Abua Canice secured a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Iloputa Ikechukwu in a competitive match.

In the ladies’ singles final, defending champion Khadijat Mohammed retained her title, defeating Mary Udoffa 6-3, 6-4. Both players hail from Kogi State, underscoring the geographic diversity of participants in Nigerian tennis.

The men’s doubles final also concluded on Friday, with Abubakar Yusuf and Adeleye Daniel defeating Abamu Mathew and Michael Emmanuel in straight sets, 7-6(2), 6-4.

SolaceBase reports that this year’s Dala Hard Court Tennis Championships offers a prize pool of ₦1,000,000 for the men’s singles champion and ₦600,000 for the women’s champion. The tournament continues to attract top players from across the country, reflecting its prominence in Nigerian tennis.

Saturday’s man’s singles final will see Oparaoji Uche, the tournament’s top seed, face Abua Canice, who reached the finals in last year’s edition but did not claim the title. Last year’s champion, Henry Ase, was eliminated earlier in this year’s competition.
