A renowned historian and educationist from Kano, Dr. Nasir Ibrahim Dantiye, has passed away at the age of 76 after a brief illness that left him bedridden for six days.

Dr. Dantiye, who died on Wednesday, was the elder brother of veteran journalist, former President of Nigerian Guild of Editors and immediate past Information Commissioner, Halilu Baba Dantiye.

He is survived by three children.

Speaking on his passing, Baba Dantiye described the late scholar as a dedicated educationist who served in various academic institutions and positively impacted countless lives during his over 51-year career in education.

Before his death, Dr. Dantiye was a lecturer in the Department of History at Northwest University (formerly Yusuf Maitama Sule University), Kano.

Over the course of his career, he also worked at the College of Advanced Studies (CAS), Kano; the School of Management Studies, Kano State Polytechnic; and the National Examinations Council (NECO).

He was the eldest son in the Dantiye family and was widely respected as a community leader.

SolaceBase reports that Dr. Dantiye was also among the pioneer batch of National Youth Corps (NYSC) members in 1974, marking him as one of the early contributors to national service and educational development in Nigeria.

His burial is scheduled to take place at 11 a.m. today at the Kano Emir’s Palace.
