The Kano State Police Command has reported a significant decline in criminal activities across the state in the first quarter of 2026, attributing the development to renewed policing strategies, intelligence-led operations, and stronger collaboration with stakeholders.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this during a media briefing on Tuesday at the Command Headquarters, Bompai, Kano, where he addressed journalists on the security situation in the state.

Bakori said the command’s restructuring had enhanced operational efficiency and improved response to emerging threats, noting that ongoing reforms were already yielding “positive results” in maintaining law and order.

He added that the police were committed to sustaining the momentum to ensure Kano remains safe for residents and businesses.

Highlighting the Command’s roadmap for 2026, the commissioner explained that strategies such as community policing, intelligence-driven operations, capacity building, and inter-agency collaboration had strengthened security architecture in the state.

He particularly referenced the success of Operation Kukan Kura, which he said had significantly curtailed thuggery, locally known as Fadan Daba.

According to him, “Our roadmap for 2026 is yielding tremendous results, and we are committed to maintaining and improving upon this momentum.”

He further revealed that the state had been largely shielded from bandit infiltration through joint efforts with the Kano State Government and other security agencies, while disputes between farmers and herders had been resolved through dialogue and community engagement.

The commissioner also disclosed that the command had leveraged open-source intelligence to identify suspected drug dealers, saying over 2,000 names had been received from the public.

He said many of the names appeared multiple times, indicating credible leads.

“We are currently profiling and verifying these individuals with a view to taking decisive action,” he said, underscoring the role of technology and community participation in crime fighting.

Bakori noted that several suspects linked to crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, cybercrime, and drug trafficking had been arrested and prosecuted, with stolen properties recovered in multiple operations.

While acknowledging that challenges remain, he assured residents of the Command’s commitment to tackling insecurity, stressing that efforts would continue in partnership with relevant authorities.

He expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for their support, as well as the people of the state for their cooperation.

The police chief urged citizens to continue supporting security agencies with timely information, assuring that the Command would remain steadfast in protecting lives and property.
