”We need credible people to lead Kano APC” – Minister

The newly appointed Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, has stated that for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to win the 2027 general election in Kano, the party must elect leaders of integrity and high respect to win the heart of the people.

Speaking at a news conference in Kano on Monday, Ata emphasized that reinstating Abdullahi Abbas as the APC chairman in Kano would lead to electoral losses for the party.

“This is my stance, and it remains unchanged. We will oppose the reinstatement of the current APC leadership in Kano, as we saw the consequences of that in the last election. We will not allow a repeat of that situation,” he asserted.

“I stand firm on this. If Abbas is reappointed as APC chairman, I will resign my ministerial position and leave the APC. This is my unwavering position,” Ata reiterated.

Addressing Abbas’s claim that the minister was not a member of the APC, Ata rejected it as false, stating that he is a founding member and has never left the party.

He also denied being influenced or sponsored by anyone to oppose Abbas’s actions.

Good Governance Award

“It is unfortunate and baseless to suggest that I am being sponsored. The best way forward is to change the leadership of the APC in Kano State,” Ata said. “We need leaders of integrity and respect so that the people of Kano will accept the APC. This is the only solution.”

He concluded by stressing the divine nature of power.

“We should all remember that power is granted by God. It is not obtained through force, money, or even votes. It is only with the will of Allah to take over power or a position of authority. Therefore, we should be peaceful and respectful, both within our party and towards the opposition.”
