The Sokoto State government has explained why Governor Ahmed Aliyu decided to extend the public holiday for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration to Friday.
According to the chief press secretary (CPS) to the governor of the state, Abubakar Bawa, Friday is declared a work-free day so that workers can ‘fully enjoy’ with members of their families.

“Governor Ahmed Aliyu wishes the entire people of Sokoto State a hitch-free Sallah celebration,” the statement reads.
On Thursday, Dikko Radda, governor of Katsina, also declared Friday as work free day for the Eid-El-Fitr celebrations.
Radda said his government took the step to enable workers in the state to fully enjoy the celebration with their families.
On April 7, the federal government declared a two-day holiday – Tuesday and Wednesday – for the festivities.

However, the crescent moon was not sighted on Monday forcing the government to declare Thursday as another public holiday while the Eid-el-Fitr celebration took place on Wednesday.
On April 9, the federal government announced the extension of the Eid-el-Fitr public holidays to Thursday.
