Why we shut down Kano govt employment portal-Muhuyi
Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has said the state employment portal was shut down to enhance and facilitate ongoing investigation on the legality or otherwise of its existence so as to ensure that nobody is shortchanged.
The commission chairman Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado stated this on Thursday while speaking with select journalists together with the Permanent Secretary, Establishment and Service Matters, Office of the Head of Service, Alhaji Umar Muhammad Jalo.
Rimin Gado stated that the ongoing investigation arose from the outcry of applicants and complaints that they were asked to buy employment forms so as to secure jobs with the state government.

He noted that with the ongoing probe of the situation, it would be wrong to described the situation as a fraud for now, considering that it has even been discovered that the portal was created by the immediate past administration with the extract of a state council meeting authorising it.

The commission boss noted that the clarification became necessary as most of the applicants were said to have rushed to apply through the portal with the rumour that the state government is employing en-mass.
‘’The rumour that most of the applicants heard was that the state government was recruiting, hence the surge in the rush to quickly apply to secure job but part of the investigation has revealed that there was nothing as such in the meantime, the antigraft agency boss said.
‘’Hence part of what we are trying to find out is why the sale of form for now when there is no vacancy or opening to employ the applicant and how much generated so far from the exercise, among other issues.’’
‘’Therefore we cannot say for now that we have discovered fraudulent action.’’

‘’Similarly, the invitation of permanent secretaries on the issue is for clarification, not an indictment.’’
‘’Even you as journalists can be invited to assist the commission in any investigation if you have information that can enhance the investigation.’’
‘’Nevertheless, the report of our finding will be completed today for further action.’’

Speaking more on the development, the Permanent Secretary, Establishment and Service Matters, Office of the Head of Service, Alhaji Umar Muhammad Jalo said the office of the Head of Service is hosting the portal for the Civil Service Commission.
Jalo explained that three portals exist at the office that are for employment, salary and promotion.
According to him, the portal affected by the shutdown is that for employment.
The Permanent Secretary said what led to the rumour of the state government recruitment was a social media post that went viral that many of the applicants saw.
