The WOFAN Comprehensive Schools and Islamiyah, Kano, has put in place an equipped and valuable entrepreneurial vocational / skills centre in ensuring self-reliance for its students and beyond their graduation from the school.

The graduates, drawn from Nursery 2, Primary 5, and JSS 3, received training in addition to completing the approved standard curriculum in various fields, including climate smart and adaptive farming, culinary services, cosmetics, fashion design, joinery & carpentry, welding, shoe designs and basic engineering and robotic / technology innovations.

Speaking on Saturday in Kano during the school’s Annual Graduation and Prize-Giving Day, the Proprietress, Dr. Salamatu Garba, said the event was not only a celebration of academic achievement but also a showcase of the school’s commitment to entrepreneurship.

“You cannot graduate from WOFAN school without learning at least two skills,” she stated. “When you leave here, you know you are leaving with something you can depend on in the future. I call on parents, especially those in event management and other industries, to work with us in advancing our children’s entrepreneurial knowledge.”

Dr. Garba stressed that WOFAN’s approach goes beyond academics, with a focus on practical skills that ensure graduates are ready to thrive in Nigeria’s challenging economy.

During the event, students impressed parents and guests with live exhibitions of their projects, including shoemaking, hair and skin care products, tailoring, vegetable farming, carpentry, and innovative engineering works such as a smart dustbin that opens and closes automatically, an obstacle-avoiding model car, and solar-powered systems.

Dr. Garba declared that fees for the Islamiyya section would be waived for the 2026 academic session as a scholarship to all old and new students interested in Islamiyya courses.

“Considering the economic situation in the country, and just as we did during the COVID-19 period, we have decided to waive school fees for the Islamiyya section for the 2026 session,” she announced.

The Chairman of the WOFAN Technical Committee, Professor Sani Miko, congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to uphold the school’s moral standards and be good ambassadors.

Similarly, he thanked the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the school teachers and support staff for their support and expressed hope that it would become a model for other schools.

On his part, the School Principal, Usaini Auwal, urged parents to support their children’s entrepreneurial ambitions.

“If a child wants to sew or farm, and the parent doesn’t provide a sewing machine or space for farming, the effort ends in school,” he cautioned.

Also, the PTA Chairman, Alhaji Isma’il Musa Kallah, praised the school’s teaching methods, noting that they blend modern education with enterprise training.

“I have three children in this school, and I’ve seen remarkable improvement in their education and skills. They are being groomed to be job creators, not job seekers,” he said.

One of the graduates, Iman Nasir Umar, who completed JSS 3, expressed gratitude to the school for providing quality education.

SolaceBase recalled that the school also celebrated students who had successfully completed the recitation of the Holy Qur’an from cover to cover, alongside their foundational Islamic studies.

The event attracted dignitaries, including traditional rulers, community leaders, and well-wishers, who commended WOFAN’s dedication to academic excellence, moral upbringing, and entrepreneurship.
