2023: Youths must wake up to take over the nation’s administration – Dukawa

The Head of Department, Public Administration, Bayero University Kano, BUK, Dr. Sa’idu Ahmad Dukawa has said Nigerian youths must wake up to take over the nation’s administration in the forthcoming elections.

Dukuwa made this call at the 4th annual general meeting of school of management studies alumni association Kano state polytechnic, held on Tuesday in Kano.

The HOD who was represented by Dr. Riyauddeen Zubairu Maitama during his presentation as a guest speaker, emphasised that Nigerian youths must present themselves as a force to reckon with in the 2023 election by their political activism, by raising candidates with people-driven representation and uncompromised prospects for good governance.

“The youths in Nigeria must wake up to take over their future which has been truncated repeatedly by yesterday’s leaders that have refused to hand over power to capable and energetic youth that can effectively drive the nation’s affairs to land safely.”

“Now, as the 2023 election is around the corner, the political elites are coming up with numerous ways and instruments to marginalized the youth, one common instrument used is this popular slogan “Wisdom, comes with age”, but the question here is; has this wisdom been transferred into Nigerian political and economic policies?”

“Age should be an insignificant factor in the process of administration. However, the current realities show the problem of Nigeria is related to age as it limits or boosts the productivity rate of our leaders, characteristics of leadership are experience, knowledge and legitimacy for the growth and development of the nation.”

“Early leaders in the post-independence era were not aged, but youth driven by patriotism in their agitation for good governance.”

“Youth engagement at all levels will help in peace building, community development and economic growth in this contemporary world, and it will be therefore, economically, socially, culturally and politically dangerous to alienate these vast resources as it may affect the overall development of the country.”

He added that Nigeria as a country must begin to look inward by actively engaging the youth at the mainstream governance to bring enduring solution to the numerous problems facing the country, because when the youth are well catered for, there won’t be the need for them to join bad gang and engage in other illicit acts.

In his welcome address, the president of the association Kabiru Nasiru Isah appreciated the members and the management of Kano state polytechnic for always being there for them.
