Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabiru Yusuf, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to relieve the state’s Commissioner of Police of his duties over alleged incompetence.

Governor Yusuf made the call on Wednesday during the celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

He stressed that Nigerians deserve security personnel who are honest, fair, and committed to protecting lives and property without bias or political influence.

SolaceBase gathered that the request stemmed from the withdrawal of police personnel during the celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The governor described the action as “unpatriotic and uncalled for,” stressing that such conduct undermines the spirit of unity and collective responsibility that Independence Day represents.

Recalls that the relationship between the Kano State Government and the police was said not to be cordial since 2023 with former Commissioner of police, Husani Gumel, later with Salman Dogo and presently Bakori.
