Zamfara govt suspends Emir for turbaning notorious bandits’ leader
Zamfara State Governor, Bello Muhammad Matawalle has approved the suspension of the Emir of the newly created Birnin Yandoto Emirate, Alhaji Aliyu Marafa for conferring chieftaincy title on a wanted bandit leader, Adamu Aliero-Yankuzo, popularly called Ado Alero.
The Zamfara State Police Command was said to have declared Alero wanted in 2020 over the killings, maiming and kidnappings in communities of Zamfara and Katsina States.
Solacebase reports that Ado Alero was on Saturday turbaned as Sarkin Fulani (Chief of Fulanis) of Yandoto Emirate by the Emir of Yandoto Daji Emirate, Aliyu Garba Marafa.
The turbaning ceremony took place hours after the emirate had suspended the process indefinitely.
Several bandit group leaders and lieutenants were said to have witnessed the occasion on several motorbikes to celebrate with Aliero.
The Emir’s suspension was contained in a statement signed by the secretary to Zamfara State Government, SSG, Alh. Kabiru Balarabe, on Sunday.
“This is to inform the general public that the Zamfara State Government has dissociated itself from the alleged turbaning of a Sarkin Fulani by the Emir of Birnin ‘Yandoto of Tsafe Local Government Area. In this regard, the State Executive Governor, Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, MON (Shattiman Sokoto) has directed for suspension of the Emir with immediate effect,’’ the statement read
The statement added that, “Accordingly, the Executive Governor has approved the appointment of a Committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the action of the Emir.
The composition of the Committee is as follows, Hon. Yahaya Chado Gora as Chairman, Hon. Yahaya Mohd Kanoma , member, Hon. Muhd Umar B/Magaji , member, Hon. Lawal Abubakar Zannah , Isa Muhd Moriki (Rtd P/Sec) , member and Barr. Musa Garba, ( SG/PSec. MOJ), as Secretary
According to the statement , the SSG said, in the meantime, Alhaji Mahe Garba Marafa, who is the District Head of ‘Yandoto is hereby assigned to take charge of the affairs of the Emirate.
