PHOTOS: Two villages without water over 40 years in Kano community got Gov Yusuf’s attention, orders immediate construction of boreholes for residents

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered for immediate construction of two solar-powered boreholes in two villages, in Bichi Local Government Area of the State that have been facing water shortage for over forty years.

SOLACEBASE reports that one of the villages Danya has been without water for over 40 years with residents close to 1,000, while the other village, Kyallin-Bula has close to 4,000 residents.

According to Project Coordinator, Kano, Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes, ACReSAL,  Dr Dahir Muhammad Hashim while speaking with journalists on Sunday at the village, said the governor became worried after watching a report on an online TV platform which shows young girls passing nights daily on queue, after trekking a long distance, to fetch water in the villages.

The residents of the two villages were so happy seeing that work commenced immediately after surveying the area to determine where to locate the boreholes.

”This is one of my happiest moments since I was born in this community about 50 years ago, seeing that our water problem would be a thing of the past just like that, a resident Ibrahim Abdullahi told SOLACEBASE.

”The only access to water in this community is a stream which is about four kilometres away from the village.”

”And it will surprise you that we share drinking of the water from the stream with animals daily, depending on who gets there first.”
