2021: Ganduje launches Keep Kano Clean campaign, warns against open defecation

Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje  has launch Keep Kano clean 2021 campaign  to ensure that the state environment is kept clean and neat

During the celebration, Dr. Ganduje on Saturday said the campaign which is tagged ” Keep Kano clean”, was initiated by his administration to create awareness and address the environmental challenges, such as flooding, erosions, and desertification among others.

He said the campaign is also in line with the global call for protection of the environment, preserving the ecosystem, and addressing the menace of climate change.

‘’The initiative which is a partnership arrangement with waste management firm known as Capegate, within the week-long and other time ahead would keep Kano greener, cleaner and ecosystem friendly, ‘’Ganduje added.

Solacebase reports that about 100 community associations would benefit from the procured sanitation equipment launch by the governor.

The equipment includes Wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, fork shovels, and diggers, etc.

He added that in addition to the already constructed public toilet facilities, the State Government will be placing mobile toilets in strategic locations, upgrade the already existing toilet facilities to encourage patronage, and partner with donors, individuals, and corporate organizations in the management and maintenance of these facilities.

On his part, the State Commissioner of Environment, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, said to check environmental challenges, the planting of two million trees across the state has also been launched.

He said the state has approved the sum of N80m to conduct this year’s drainage clearance exercise.

The commissioner added that the Capegate firm in collaboration with federal and state government would ensure that all evacuated solid waste would be recycled for power generation, organic and inorganic fertilizer for the benefit of the people, and environmental safety.
