A non-governmental organisation NGO, ActionAid Nigeria, has urged women and youth to make themselves available for political participation and governance, so that they can contribute their quotas to democratic development of the country especially as 2023 general election is approaching.
The manager, governance program of ActionAid Nigeria, Mr. Celestine Okwudili Odo made the call on Tuesday in Kano at the commemoration of the international women’s day ‘tagged ‘Hope, Action and Progress for Women and Youth in Politics and Governance”.
Odo said on this occasion to mark 2022 international women’s day, with the theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow” the campaign for inclusion of women and younger people in politics and good governance processes (We-You-Pro) call for greater participation of women in politics and governance.
He urged Nigerians to help break the biases against Nigerian Women and youth’s participation in governance in the country.

‘’In Nigeria women participation in politics is not proportionate to over 45% of the nation’s population which they represent and this has not translated into equal representation in political leadership positions, ‘’Odo said.
He lamented that women and youth made up 65% of voters in every election , but they are not given viable positions in their political parties, they are not given chance to contest, to lead but rather politicians used them to get the number.
The occasion has in attendance with many women from different political parties participation in Kano.
Earlier, in her speech one of the participant and Kano State PRP Women leader , who contested for seat of House of Representatives in 2019 , from Tudun Wada, Doguwa federal constituency Hajiya ,Aishatu Yakubu Mai Jama’a appeals for support to improve women participation in politics.
