The Nigerian Bar Association has condemned what it calls unlawful arrest and detention of 123 Jigawa State indigenes in Lagos State.
The Jigawa State branch chairman of the association, Mr. Bashir Usaini, faulted the arrest in a statement forwarded to Solacebase on Saturday.
The statement said the people were on their way to Lagos for a lawful business and their arrest is an abuse of freedom of movement.
‘’The arrest contravened their fundamental human rights guaranteed by Section 41 and 42 of the 1999 Constitution, ‘’Mr. Usaini said.
The state NBA boss then called for their immediate and unconditional release and be allowed to carry out their lawful business in Lagos and other parts of the country.
Solacebase recalled that the 123 detained indigenes of Jigawa State were released this evening after Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar contacted his Lagos state counterpart.
