Again, Cholera Kills Nine Persons , Twenty Hospitalized In Kano

About nine persons in Gwarzo local government area of Kano state have died in a suspected outbreak of cholera.

The villages affected with the outbreak include Lakwaya, Kofar Aerwa, Kofar Yamma, Abuja Kwatas, Gwarzo Bare-bari and Unguwar Tsauni all in Gwarzo local government area.

Ibrahim Sale, a resident of Kofar Arewa said the outbreak that has claimed nine lives in the last eight days has also rendered about 20 persons hospitalized.

“My neighbor’s daughter, Khadeeja aged 5, died on Thursday afternoon after receiving over ten bags of drips after vomiting and stooling for two days while four others are in the hospitals. Apart from six other death recorded in about four villages,” said Sale.

A visit to the General hospital on Friday , Solacebase discovered that most of the patients are afflicted with symptoms peculiar to cholera.

Mariam Yusuf is the mother of Zainab aged 4 who has being hospitalized over three days said her daughter apart from vomiting and stooling is also running temperature and has received about 15 drips.

“ Since she was hospitalized , there has  being little improvement. Two patients died of similar disease this morning a young man and a little boy. Honestly I am scared; I pray my daughter will survive it”.Cholera Gwarzo A

The heath personnel at the hospital declined speaking to journalists as they said they are not authorized to do so.

However speaking to Solacebase,  Gwarzo Local Government Council Chairman, Bashir Kutama who confirmed the outbreak said eight persons have died of the disease and the council has procure medication to support the patients.Cholera Gwarzo B

Also the District Head of Gwarzo Alhaji Shehu Kabiru Bayero told Solacebase that immediately the suspected cholera outbreak was discovered, the authorities were notified and the residents are being sensitized to check the spread.Cholera Gwarzo CC

Solacebase recalled that last week about eleven persons died in three villages of Bebeji local government area of Kano state with about forty hospitalized of suspected case of cholera.

Several phone calls made to the commissioner for heath Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso did not go through and that of ministry spokesman  Ismaila Garba Gwammaja  was not picked.
