A Civil Society Organisation, the Organisation for Community Civic Engagement( OCCEN) has expressed commitment to widening the scope of voter education in Kano state.
The group announced this at a one-day roundtable discussion entitled ‘’expanding voter access to polling units and continues voter registration’’ with political parties, civil society and media organisations held on Wednesday in, Kano
Solacebase reports that the roundtable discussion was organised by Organisation for Community Civic Engagement (OCCEN) with funding support from the National Endowment of Democracy (NED) Washington DC.
At the event, discussions were held on the role and responsibilities of political parties, media organisations and other relevant stakeholders with regard to according supports to voter education, especially on mobilizing the young millennial and other unregistered eligible voters to take advantage of the CVR exercise slated to commence from 28th June till 3rd quarter of 2022.

Speaking at the event, the chairman of inter-party advisory council Alh. Isa Nuhu Danfulani said the roundtable interactive sessions was productive, in view of how the participants discuss some vital issues such as how to educate the general public and relevant stakeholders on what’s needed to have free and fair forthcoming general elections.
On his part, Executive Director, Organisation for Community Civic Engagement (OCCEN) Comrade Abdulrazak Alkali said the interactive session was very much fruitful with sharing ideas towards creating modalities on how to engage with INEC to provide more details on new Polling Units locations and criteria adopted in creating them.
He noted that the role of political parties, CSOs, and media cannot be overemphasized when it comes to the issue of voter education.

At the end of the discussions, the participants came up with the term of reference by which to engage with INEC which includes; letter of introduction, Data collections and a joint report on voter education.
The forum unanimously created a platform with the name Kano Committee on Voter Education (KACOV) to enhance the goal of enlightening the public on voter education.
