AIG Garba Umar and the red carpet reception of respect- Bala Ibrahim

The Interpol 89th General Assembly had come and gone in Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday, 25/11/21, where the Assembly elected Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi of the United Arab Emirates as the Organization’s new President and AIG Garba Baba Umar, the Head, National Central Bureau of Nigeria as the Vice President, Africa.

Nigeria shined especially high at the Assembly, particularly during the elections, because the votes that produced AIG Garba Baba Umar as the Vice President, Africa, were so impressively amazing, to the point that those familiar with the politics of the interpol, are predicting a new trajectory of prestige for Nigeria, as a country.

With the President scoring 63%, and AIG Garba Umar cornering nearly 98% of the total votes cast, Nigeria’s name has been resonating globally since the end of the General Assembly on Thursday.

In the spirit of that resonating name of Nigeria, and to show solidarity and camaraderie to the victory of a colleague and country, a team of friends and police officers, under the abled and astonishingly cheerful leadership of the Force Secretary, AIG Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa Ringim, a course mate and intimately personal friend of AIG Garba Baba Umar, was on the ground at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in the early hours of the day to receive him today.

In convoy, with the commanding and compelling attraction and charm of the members of the Abuja power bikers, whose member, Inspector Isyaku, is an aide to the newly elected Vice President of the interpol, the crowd moved in a long stretch of cavalcade, from the airport to a location in Gwarinpa, where another surprise was unveiled for Mr. WONDERFUL: a splendid and sumptuous breakfast, put in place for him and his guests, by madam Khadija Fayek Mustapha, otherwise called Ummee, the ever-organized and beautiful wife of the AIG.

Ummee campaigned, to the acknowledgement of AIG Garba, as if her husband was contesting for the office of the Secretary General of the United Nations.

It was an assembly for mutual congratulations, with sustained and enthusiastic show of appreciation from the audience to the celebrant, the brand new Vice President of the interpol, AIG Garba Baba Umar, whose victory is predicted to be the stepping stone, for the termination of cybercrime in the African sub region in particular, and the world in general.

Already, according to the index of the Global Cybersecurity, GCI, who normally give directions on security ratings, Nigeria, which was ranked 57th out of 175 countries in the campaign against the menace of cybercrime globally, stands the chance of becoming number one now in Africa, courtesy of the applaudable acceptance it received in Turkey.

GCI is an initiative of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), involving experts from different backgrounds and organizations. It aims at providing insight into the cybersecurity engagement of countries. So when it gives rating, the result is internationally respected.

Their report said, before now, Nigeria’s level of commitment towards the fight against cybercrime was ranked medium, alongside United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Kuwait, Tunisia, Mexico, Pakistan, Uganda, Greece, Iran and 45 others.

But now, things are destined to change, thanks to the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari, the support of indefatigable IGP Usman Alkali Baba, who is giving free and helping hands to AIG Garba Umar, for the Interpol to be on top of every aspect of crime and criminality, especially the three-pronged cybercrime, occasioned by the advent of the internet, computers and the mobile phones, which are contributing a lot in the rise of massive outbreak of such crimes in the country.

Before the coming of the present police leadership, criminals and fraudsters leverage on the anonymity provided by the internet, to defraud unsuspecting victims.

But since the arrival of IGP Alkali Baba, who has rejigged the workings of the INTERPOL, the story has changed to the tell of good tales.

As AIG Garba admitted at the red carpet reception, the successes they are recording at the National Central Bureau of the INTERPOL, couldn’t have been achieved without the support and guidance of IGP Alkali Usman Baba, the 21st indigenous Inspector General of the Nigeria Police.

Finally, with zeal and emotion, and to the ovation of the crowd at the reception, Mr. WONDERFUL said and I quote, “I WOULD NEVER LET YOU DOWN”.
