Alleged Killing: Court Remands Corps Member In Kano

A Kano Magistrate Court sitting at Noman’s land on Friday remanded a Corps Member Jepthan Peter Makwin serving in Bebeji local government area of the state and standing trial over the death of an eight-year-old boy till February 4, 2020, for hearing of bail application.

Solacebase recalled that an NYSC member, Jepthan Peter Makwin was accused of beating an eight-year-old boy, Hassan Suleiman, a class 3 pupil of Old mosque Islamiyah school, Bebeji to death on Thursday, October 2019.

According to Kano State NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Ladan Baba the incident occurred in the afternoon.

“We wish to state categorically that the unfortunate incident happened at about 3:17 pm on Thursday, 25th October at Bebeji town, Bebeji LGA, Kano State, where a corps member, Jepthan Peter Makwin ran after the deceased who came in to pluck fruits from an umbrella Tree within the Corpers’ Lodge.

The Coordinator said in a statement that, “In the process, the boy fell and hit his head on the wall of the entrance of the Lodge. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and was afterward confirmed dead.’’

At the court sitting on Friday, the defence Counsel applied for the bail of the accused before Magistrate Fatima Adamu which was objected to by the prosecuting Counsel, Barr. Nasiru Aminu Fagge.

The presiding magistrate, Fatima Adamu after listening to the argument of both parties then adjourned the matter to February 4th for the bail application.
