Army Rescues 1000 Boko Haram Captives In Bama

The Nigerian Army says it has rescued more than 1,000 people held hostage by the Boko Haram terrorist group.

Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, revealed this in a statement on Monday.

According to him, the hostages were rescued from the terrorists’ enclave during an operation by troops of 22 Brigade deployed in operation Lafiya Dole in the North East.

Brigadier General Chukwu said that the operation was conducted in conjunction with allies of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).

He disclosed that the victims were rescued from Malamkari, Amchaka, Walasa and Gora villages in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

“The hostages consisted mainly of women, children, as well as some young men who were forced to become Boko Haram fighters.

“Speaking with one of the rescued victims, Alhaji Gambo Gulumba from Amchaka village, thanked the Nigerian military for showing them love and care,” the statement read.

Brigadier General Chukwu noted further that the Army remains committed to riding the region and the country of the insurgents, as well as rescuing all hostages in their captivity.

He also urged the public to report any strange movement or character in the surroundings to the appropriate authority for prompt action.

The Army spokesman, however, disclosed that the rescued persons are being attended to in a military medical facility.
