ASUU expresses dismay on takeover of former Daula Hotel by KNSG

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has condemned the recent takeover of the Hospitality and Tourism Institute  (Former Daula Hotel) by Kano State Government without properly engaging the Council of the University.

ASUU Kano Zonal Coordinator, Prof. Abdulkadir Muhammad decried the situation at a news conference over the crisis in the Nigerian University system on Tuesday held at Bayero University Kano.

He said the University Council was not aware of the situation as the government did not follow due process in carrying out the act.

Solacebase reports that ASUU-KUST branch in a statement on August 14 expressed dismay over the takeover of the institute for commercialization.

‘’The zone commended the efforts made by ASUU-KUST branch for officially registering their protest against the serious set back to the authorities concern. We are certain that posterity will judge accordingly,’’ said the Zonal Coordinator.

ASUU noted that without prejudice to the impasse created, the visitor to KUST, that is the state governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje is admonished to follow due process in making a decision that has short and long term implication in the education sector.
