Blockade: Motorists groan under pain over IGP visit to Kano

Many motorists in Kano on Monday groan under serious pain due to the blockade and closure of most roads in the metropolis over a visit by the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba.

Some of the roads were blocked and closed for over two hours by police personnel over the IGP visit to Kano to attend the passing out parade of cadets at Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday.

Solacebase reports that major roads affected by the blockade include the ever-busy Murtala Muhammad way, Audu Bako way, Tukur road, Airport road and Bompai road.

Some of the motorists who spoke to Solacebase on the roads expressed sadness with the blockade that affected their movement for hours as they were prevented from going about their activities.

‘’It is sad that in this 21^st century, just because an IGP is visiting, roads would have to be blocked, even the Service Chiefs have visited severally without this harrowing experience,’’ said an annoyed motorist, on Murtala Muhammad way.

Another motorist, Baba Ibrahim said for over two hours, his children have closed from school, but due to the blockade, he could not access the school that is just about 400 meters away from where the police personnel blocked the road on Tukur road.

‘’Do you know that an ambulance was also not given access as the driver was told to make use of the alternative route, said Baba Ibrahim. What kind of a country is this?’’

When Solacebase contacted Kano Police Spokesman over the blockade, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa who confirmed the IGP visit said officers and men of the command were deployed across the metropolis to ensure free flow of vehicles and provide adequate security for lives and property.
