Buhari approves reconstitution of standing committee on national honours award

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reconstitution of the standing committee on National Honours Award for a period of four years with effect from Aug. 5.

Mrs Anthonia Ekpa, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday, in Abuja.

According to Ekpa, the committee chaired by His Royal Highness, Justice Sidi Muhammad (rtd), the Emir of Lafia, has Mrs Farida Waziri (North-West), Muhammed Ja`afaru (North-West), Alhaji Sale Isa (North-East), Chief Inikio Sam-sele (South-South) as members.

Others are; Prof. Lazarus Ekwueme (South-East), Yemisi Shyllon (South-West), Dr Abdullahi Onyekan, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Permanent Secretary/Director, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs.

In the statement, Ekpa said that Sen. George Akume, Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, had congratulated the committee members while urging them to uphold the confidence and trust reposed in them by the President. (NAN)

In 2018 President Muhammadu Buhari  formally made the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993, Presidential election Grand Commander of the Federal Republic.

Kola, the eldest son of late Chief Moshood Abiola,  received the national honour of the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic on behalf of his late father.

President Muhammadu Buhari presented the insignia to him after the citation of the late politician was read at the venue of the well-attended event holding inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The conferment of the honour on the late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola comes 25 years after the election, which was recognised as the freest and fairest in the country’s history so far.

It came almost 20 years after Abiola died in detention after being jailed by military dictator General Sani Abacha for trying to claim his mandate.
