BUK scholars, alumni honour Prof. Hajara Sanda

Celebration of Professor Hajara Umar Sanda again resonated when graduates of Mass Communication, Bayero University, Kano, BUK ‘Class 2012’ and other Scholars of the Department honoured her as the newly promoted first female Professor in the Faculty of Communication.

The event took place on Saturday at the Department of Mass Communication Conference Hall, Bayero University, Kano.

It was attended by Lecturers who eulogized the exceptional qualities of Professor Hajara, describing her as a diligent, dedicated and a no-nonsense-scholar who gives attention to details without fear or favour.

Addressing the gathering, a Senior Lecturer and Chairman, BUK Mass Communication Alumni Association (BUMKAA), Dr Abubakar Shehu Minjibir, lauded the academic milestone of the first female Professor, saying that Prof. Hajara has done the University proud through her commitment to details, her humane and humble disposition to all activities.

The HOD, Information and Media Studies, Dr. Nura Ibrahim said, the department is privileged to have Prof. Hajara in its fold adding that she is a rare gem who performed excellently while she was appointed as Deputy Dean.

He said, despite the pressure of the office, she rarely complained even as the Students’ Affairs Unit is one of the most difficult offices in the University.

On her part, Dr Hadiza Ibrahim confessed that she was personally fond of Prof. Hajara and she was ‘scared’ whenever they had to work in the same committee because of her commitment and dedication to getting things done with much alacrity.

She noted that it is this disposition that stands her out among her colleagues in the Faculty.

In their separate Remarks, Prof. Usman Abubakar, Dr. Haruna Ismail, and Dr. Siraj Ibrahim lauded the academic feat of Prof. Hajara and wished her more success in her academic journey.

A former Columnist with Daily Trust, Dr Bala Muhammad, who sent in his goodwill message, via a video, described Prof. Hajara as a thoroughly bred academic who has made the faculty proud.

He added that being her student as an undergraduate, she has become a member of his family due to her diligence and dedication to duty and wished her more success.

On her part, the celebrant, Prof. Hajara Sanda emotionally happy appreciated the class members and attendees of the reception over the honour.
