BUK signs MoU to establish veterinary field stations, ambulatory services

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with L & Z Integrated Farms Ltd., for the establishment of veterinary field stations, ambulatory services and practical training to enhance teaching and research.

Solacebase reports that the agreement was part of requirements for the accreditation of the university’ s newly-established Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

Speaking after signing the MoU on Tuesday in Kano, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sagir Adamu-Abbas, said a laboratory would be established to render diagnosis services on animals’ reproductive diseases.

Adamu-Abbas , represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Sani Muhammad-Gumel, said the university had taken the issue of collaboration and networking with utmost importance.

He said such actions would go a long way in the development of the university by ensuring quality services.

“Without collaboration and partnerships, universities cannot grow.

“It is pleasant for us today, as we sign this agreement with L & Z Farms, for the development of our young Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

“Our desire is to make this faculty one of the best in this part of the world,” Adamu-Abbas said.

In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer, L & Z Integrated Farms, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar, said the company would do everything possible to ensure the success of the project.

Abubakar noted that the collaboration would expose the students to practical aspects of their studies.

He explained that combining theory with practicals would assist the students to understand and excel.

According to him, the students will be trained on artificial insemination, poultry management, milk hygiene and dairy production, among others.

“Already a plot of land for this purpose has been provided by the institution, while the company will provide a set of animals, which the students will make use of during practicals,” he said.

Also, the acting Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Abdussamad Muhammad, said the facilities and services to be rendered by the firm would assist in ensuring accreditation of the new programme.

He further said that it would  expose students to practical aspect of their studies.
