CITAD organises 22nd annual ICT quiz competition to promote technology education in Kano

The Center for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has organized its 22nd annual ICT inter-secondary schools quiz competition to stimulate students’ interest in new technologies and ICT careers in Kano State.

The event took place on Thursday at the Mahmoud Tukur Theater, Bayero University, Kano (BUK) Old Site.

SolaceBase reports that two participants from each of the 60 secondary schools contested in the quiz competition, accompanied by their teachers and other students.

Isah Garba, the Senior Program Officer of CITAD, stated that the quiz competition aimed to draw attention to the need for ICT infrastructure in schools.

He emphasized the importance of providing students with practical learning experiences in computing to bridge the digital divide in the country.

Garba also made a plea to the Kano State Government and other northern state governments to support and expand the scope of the quiz competition, suggesting it become part of extracurricular activities in schools.

Sagir Muhammad, the Chairman of the occasion and the Managing Director of Inter-System Nigeria Limited highlighted the importance of ICT in modern life and the need to introduce students to its benefits early on.

He noted that quiz competition helps students understand the significance of IT in their lives.

After several rounds of competition, Government Technical College Warawa won first place and received a new laptop. Government Science and Technical College Dala took second place and was awarded a desktop computer. Sani Bello Science College made third position and received a public address system.

Additionally, the winners and their teachers were given scholarships to pursue Diplomas in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
