A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has adjourned the trial of former State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau alongside two others; a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Bashir Wali and Mansur Ahmed to 18th October ,2018
The three are standing trial before Justice Zainab Bage Abubakar.
They were arraigned on 6 counts of conspiracy and money laundering to the tune of N950,000,000.
The defendants were said to have collected the sum of N950,000,000; part of the $115,000,000, allegedly distributed by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Deizani Allison Madueke for the purpose of influencing the outcome of the 2015 general election.
At the continuation of hearing on Tuesday , the EFCC Counsel, Barr. Johnson Ojogbemi requested the trial to be transferred to Abuja due to security reasons .
“Some of our witnesses are scared that they will be abducted and their lives are not safe,” said Ojogbemi.
However Counsel to Ibrahim Shekarau , Barr. Sam Ologunorisa rejected the call noting that it violates the basis of the bail granted the accused.
He asserted that there is no cause for security alert as the case can be heard in Kano.
The trial judge, Justice Zainab Bage Abubakar then adjourned the matter to 18th October to give a verdict on the issue of where to continue the trial.
