Court jails 2 drug pushers in Kano

A Kano Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday, sentenced two men, Kabiru Inusa, 19, and Ibrahim Sani, 25, to 12 months in correctional centre for dealing in hard drugs.

The defendants, who live in Fagge Quarters Kano, were convicted on a count charge of possession of hard drugs.

The Magistrate, Farouk Ibrahim, sentenced the defendants, who had earlier pleaded guilty, to 12 months in a correctional centre with hard labour.

The magistrate, who did not give the convicts any option of fine, also ordered that they be given 12 strokes of the cane each.

Ibrahim further ordered that the hard drugs be forfeited to the government and destroyed.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr A S Dandago, told the court that the two were arrested on June 25 and June 27, at about 11:05 p.m, by a team of police officers attached to Fagge Division Kano.

He said that they were arrested along IBB way by Plaza Cinema in Fagge while in possession of 25 Exzol tablets and 28 Rohypnol tablets, with N15,000 cash.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 401 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
