COVID-19: NCDC Establishes Test Centre In Kano As Deputy Gov. Inspects

The Chairman,Kano State Taskforce Committee on Covid-19 and Deputy Governor , Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and Members of the committee been conducted round the Laboratory by the incharge (second right) and the CMD.

Kano State Government says henceforth all samples of suspected cases of COVID-19 will not be taken to Abuja again but conducted in the state.

The State Deputy Governor Of Kano State, Alhaji Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna who is also the Chairman of the State Task Force Committee on COVID-19 announced this when he paid an inspection visit to the COVID-19 test centre set up by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hassan Musa Fagge on Thursday and sent to Solacebase.

Solacebase recalled that the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire last week at the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 daily briefing in Abuja had announced that the Kano test centre for the disease would be inaugurated this week.

The deputy governor, in the statement, said, “We are on a fact-finding mission, from what we have seen in the laboratory…installation of equipment is complete and test running has been made .’’

According to the statement, he then expressed the appreciation of Dr.Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration to the Federal Government for setting up the COVID-19 test centre in Kano saying other neighbouring States can also bring their samples of suspected cases of COVID-19 for testing at the centre.

While conducting the Deputy Governor round the test centre, a Laboratory Scientist with the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, Abdulmajid Musa says they have started training professionals from Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and Kano State Government on how to operate the installed equipment.

Speaking earlier, the Chief Medical Director Of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Professor Abdurrahman Sheshe appreciates the effort of the State Task Force Committee on COVID-19 for sensitizing the public on how to curtail the spread of Coronavirus.

He also revealed that preparations are also in top gear of opening another COVID-19 test centre in the Hospital all in an effort of curbing the spread of COVID-19.
