COVID-19: Saudi Arabia To Observe Eid El-Fitr Under Total Lockdown

Saudi Arabian authorities say it will enforce a 24-hour curfew and total lockdown from 30 Ramadan to 4 Shawwal  – May 23 to May 27 – in all cities and regions across the Kingdom.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, the period coincides with the Eid El-Fitr holidays.

The statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency said the directives is in furtherance with the existing social distancing measure, including banning gatherings of more than five or more people in line with health protocol on COVID-19.

The statement said, “Permission for economic and commercial activities that are exempted from previous decisions, and those referred to in the royal order issued on April 25 will continue during the period from May 14 to 22.’’

It said the partial curfew relaxation for eight hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. will also continue in all cities and regions of the Kingdom, with the exception of Makkah city, during this period.

The statement said the total ban for the entry and exit from Makkah and the areas, cities and neighbourhoods for which isolation decisions were issued will also be continued.
