DSS detains personnel for shooting to death newspaper vendor

The Department of State Services (DSS) has detained its personnel attached to Speaker House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila who shot and killed a newspapers vendor on Thursday.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Department of State Services, Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, on Friday.

The statement said the operative allegedly shot and killed of one Ifeanyi Okereke.

Solacebase reports that the victim, Ifeanyi Okereke was allegedly shot in the head by a security operative attached to the speaker around the Federal Secretariat, the closest establishment to the Three Arms Zone.

The statement read: ‘’The Service hereby confirms that the suspect is one of its personnel deployed to the Speaker’s Convoy as a security detail. And as already stated by the Speaker that he has been suspended from his Convoy, the Service has further withdrawn him from the assignment.

The Service, according to the statement has opened a detailed investigation into the matter. While it pledges to be transparent and accountable in handling this, it is liaising with appropriate authorities to achieve this objective
