Emirship Tussle: Kano peace committee wants Abdulsalami, Kukah to persuade Tinubu to intervene

The Kano Peace Committee (KPC), has urged the National Peace Committee leadership, Abdulsalami Abubakar and Matthew Kukah to intervene in the dissolution of four Emirate Councils and the reinstatement of His Highness Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, by the State Government.

The committee in a statement on Monday by its co-chair, John Namaza Niyiring and Convener, Ibrahim Waiya, said they have observed the situation keenly and it is believed that the development is generating an unprecedented twist.

“It apparently constitutes a bad omen for Kano State and the good people of the State. We are of the opinion that this kind of sensitive matter ought to be treated with utmost caution and urgently, especially as the rumours suggest that, the return of His Highness, Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero to Kano State, after the dethronement of the five emirates were announced, is allegedly linked to the support of some elements in the Federal Government. Therefore, should there be a breakdown of law and order, the collateral damage may turn bloody and anarchy

“It is against this backdrop, that we write to invite the esteemed leadership and membership of the National Peace Committee, to take interest into what is happening in Kano, and to use your persuading power to prevail on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to intervene in the situation before its takes another turn.

“The Kano Peace Committee (KPC), has been closely engaging relevant stakeholders particularly the vulnerable youths to ensure that they do not get swayed by the anti-peace elements to cause mayhem in the State,” the statement read.
