FEC approves N3.52bn for aviation equipment at Lagos, Abuja, Kano airports

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved contracts worth N3,523,592,079 for procurement of equipment for Abuja, Lagos and Kano international airports under the Ministry of Aviation.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the Vice President, Laolu Akande, announced this after the federal cabinet meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Akande, who spoke on the approvals on behalf of the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, said the FEC approved “the supply and installation of two sets of complete high-capacity passenger security screening systems for the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International airports in Abuja at the sum of N1,193,630,980.

“There was another approval gotten by the aviation minister for the supply and installation of airfield ground lighting materials for the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and also the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano at the sum of N2,329,961,099.60,” he added.

Similarly, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk, said FEC approved two memoranda – National Policy for the Protection and Assistance of Trafficked Persons in Nigeria, and Protocol for Identification, Safe Return and Rehabilitation of Trafficked Persons in Nigeria – for her ministry.

She said both memoranda targeted specific agenda, including the provision of assistance to victims, as well as rehabilitation and resettlement.
