Federal University Dutsin-Ma Wins Entrepreneurial Competition

The Federal University Dutsin-ma (FUDMA), Katsina State, has won the 2018 edition of entrepreneurial competition among students of Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The competition was organised by Act Foundation Leadership Challenge (AFLC), an international donor organisation.

The competition was also a platform that enables higher institutions to showcase projects that can impact positively on the lives of people in their hosts’ communities.

It has as its theme: “Entrepreneurial Action Us (ENACTUS).’’

It is also an annual competition that inspires students towards achieving the set objective.

FUDMA students presented a project titled: “Hope for Almajiris,’’ where they showed how they can enhance the livelihood of ‘Almajiris’ and prevent them from street begging.

The competition was just concluded in Lagos State where over 35 institutions of higher learning participated.

The FUDMA ENACTUS team leader, Abdurrahman Habeebullahi, presented cheque of N500, 000 and a trophy to the University Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Armaya’u Bichi, which the institution won.

The VC commended the students for the wonderful performance and pledged to continue to support students in such activities that would further develop the institution to greater heights.

Bichi said that the University Governing Council is in the process of initiating similar project that would also go a long way in enhancing the livelihood of ‘Almajiris.’

In a related development, students of the university won fourth position in an annual debate competition organised by Impact African International, held at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, between 23rd and 28th July, 2018.

The topic of the debate was: “Youth and the Challenges of Change.’’

Abdullahi Isma’il of the Department of Applied Chemistry, Tepamose Ahmad, from Department of Language and Linguistics and James Job from the Department of History and Strategic Studies represented the university.

The debate was keenly contested among African universities where Cape Coast University, Ghana, emerged first position, Miled University, Kenya, second, Zimbabwe University emerged third, while FUDMA won fourth position.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bichi, also commended the students for uplifting the name of the institution among African Universities during the competition.

Bichi, therefore, urged the students to continue to be dedicated to their studies and shun all acts of laziness.
