Fire destroys market in Kano

Hundreds of traders lost their properties worth millions of naira in a fire disaster that gutted many shops at Gwarzo town market, Gwarzo local government area, Kano state.

SOLACEBASE reports that the fire incident which occurred on Monday has thrown the victims into critical condition as many of them were seen crying and lamenting the loss of their source of daily livelihood.

Confirming the incident, in a statement by Zonal Information Officer, Gwarzo local government area sent to SOLACEBASE on Tuesday, said Saminu Abdullahi Sa’id, Public Relations Officer, Kano State Fire Service explained that the fire started at midnight of Sunday and it took their men up to Monday morning before they finally put it off.

According to the statement, though there was no loss of lives but properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.

‘’In his comment one of the victims, Dayyabu Lawan Bala said he lost business properties worth over N5 million, he then called on the government and other well-to-do people to come to their aid to minimize their suffering.

‘’Among the early sympathizers was the member representing Gwarzo Federal Constituency Hon Abdullahi Muazu Babangandu who donated five hundred thousand naira (#500,000) to the victims after visiting the scene.
