Fuel Scarcity: Kano anti-corruption agency discovers thousands of hoarded litres of petrol at filling stations

Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday stormed some petrol filling Stations in the metropolis following unusual queues noticed in the state only to discover hoarding of the products by the marketers

The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado who led the team of the Operations Department of the Anti-Graft Agency and other relevant stakeholders, said the move became imperatives following series of complaints by the members of the public to the commission.

Solacebase reports that during the special operation, the team visited over twenty filling stations located at Tarauni, Maiduguri Road, Western bypass and Hadejia road respectively

A statement issued by the commission Media Consultant, Nura Ahmed and sent to Solacebase said the anti-graft body embarked on the raiding after securing a court order and to its surprise, most of the petrol filling station visited were discovered to be hoarding the commodity.

‘’It is sad that most of the filling stations were having as much as 20,000 litres of petrol but were not dispensing. However the stations were ordered to immediately dispense the product to motorists who were full of praises over the action,’’ said the statement.

The statement said Barrister Muhuyi who was accompanied by the head of Kano Office of the National Human Right Commission, Operations Director of the Commission directed the owner of Daubaj petrol station, along Maiduguri road that has over 12,000 litres of fuel but did not dispense to the public, to be at the commission on Tuesday for further actions.

‘’We were reliably informed that the filling station quickly closed when they heard of the exercise despite having over 12,000 litres of petrol and they are not selling to the public. Hence the owner of the station has been directed to be at the commission tomorrow for further action, said the commission Chairman in the statement.

‘’Honestly, it is unacceptable for any petrol station to create artificial scarcity and make life unbearable for Kano residents, we would not allow that.’’

The statement added that the operation is a continuous exercise warning that any petrol filling station discovers to be hoarding the product would face full wrought of the law.
