For the past months, stories on phone snatching and how people are not safe, moving around with phones, is either the criminals snatch the phone and injuring the victims or rather kill the owner and flee.
The conversation is both online and offline, with people showing concern and those who lost loved ones grieving with pain, this is not an individual problem, it’s a problem in every community in Kano and some states in Northern Nigeria.
Recently, the Kano State Police Command yielded to pressure and changed the first information report(FIR) of charging phone snatching from theft to armed robbery as measure to address the situation that has led to the killing of many residents of the state.

SOLACEBASE asks for opinions on how the menace can be tackled, here are some suggestions by the youths, and a few individuals;
- Job creation
- Hideouts destruction
- Bail denial
- Reform of social institutions
- Quality and affordable education
- Imposing the death penalty and many more.
