More than 50 people have sustained various degrees of injuries when a fire outbreak hit Al-Ihsan Petroleum Company, located at Sharada Phase 1 in Kano state.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening when a petroleum tanker caught fire while offloading the product at the filling station.
Eyewitness account said that the fire broke out when an electric wire from a pole fell on the tank of the vehicle, containing 50,000 litres of petroleum product.
According to the eyewitness, the injured people, about 70 of them, got burnt when they rushed to give their contribution to put off the fire before the state fire service arrived.
He said the good Samaritans lack the equipment to protect themselves as they attempted to quench the fire with water, while not wearing protective wears.

He added that the fire was successfully quenched when the firefighters arrived at the Schenectady of the incident.
“Luckily enough, rescue workers from Red Cross had arrived. So, they rushed the injured ones to the hospital for treatment.
” It was a tragic event but thank God that no one had lost his life there,” he said.

The Kano Secretary-General of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi confirmed the incident.
He said the Emergency First Aid Team of the Red Cross promptly responded and evacuated 72 affected Victims to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano for medical care.
He added that Seven Red Cross Volunteers actively participated in the operation.
“Some staff of the fire service were affected by the incident.”
“As I’m speaking to you now 36 victims were attended to by our Medical Personnel,” He said.
Solacebase gathered that most of the injured are receiving treatment at Murtala Specialists Hospital in the metropolis.
